About Carlos Rolón/Dzine
Dzine attended Columbia College with a concentration in painting and drawing. In the past several years, he has been recognized for his elaborately crafted work and ornate customized vehicles. Drawing from art history, his studio practice investigates popular culture, customization, beauty, identity and its relationship to art subculture, postconceptual methods, appropriation and the institution. His work is heavily influenced by his rich Puerto Rican heritage and upbringing. In 2007, Dzine represented Ukraine as one of five artists in the 52nd Biennale di Venezia and is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation award for Painting and Sculpture. His work has been exhibited extensively around the world and can be found in the permanent collections of The Bass Museum of Art in Miami, The Brooklyn Museum in New York; Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in San Juan, The Contemporary Art Museum in San Diego and Museum Het Domein in Sittard, Netherlands among many others. He lives and works in Chicago, Illinois.
